Riding in autumn: how not to lose grip
18 Oct 2026 · 4 min read

1. Check the tyres: worn ones are better replaced now. Check the pressure at least once a month, in the morning before you ride.
2. Treat wet leaves like ice: brake early, pick the cleanest line and keep the bike upright.
3. Throttle, brake and steering work gently, with no sudden moves.
4. Ride the first kilometres calmly: tyres build grip as they roll. Sports tyres need extra care in the cold.
5. On a wet road leave more space. In fog and dusk, ride so you can stop on the clean stretch you can see.
6. Be visible: reflective details, bright clothes, lights on, and ride in daylight when you can.
7. Dress in layers, take a rain suit and, if you want, heated grips: cold scatters your attention.
8. Take care on country roads and in the shade: mud by field entrances, morning frost, and wild animals at dawn and dusk.
