How to put the bike away for winter

When the road season ends in autumn, do not leave the bike as it came back from the last ride. A dirty, salty bike rusts in winter in places you never look at in summer.

Do it in this order. Wash the bike while it is warm, then dry it. Change the old oil, because old oil holds moisture. Fill the tank so the inside does not rust. Take the battery out, or leave a tender on it.

Keep the tires at the pressure in your manual. If the bike sits for months in one spot, put it on a stand or move it sometimes. Flat tires go square.

If your own manual says otherwise, follow that. This is a habit, not the special instructions for your model.
